Lower Back Pain FAQs

What are common causes of lower back pain?

Lower back pain may be associated with muscle strain, joint irritation, prolonged sitting, repetitive lifting, reduced mobility or age-related changes. Symptoms can also originate from discs, nerves or the sacroiliac joints. Because several conditions may feel similar, an evaluation can help identify factors contributing to the discomfort.

LConsider an evaluation when lower back pain persists, repeatedly returns or limits work, sleep, exercise or everyday movement. Seek prompt medical attention following significant trauma or if pain occurs with worsening leg weakness, numbness around the groin, loss of bowel or bladder control, fever or other concerning symptoms.

Depending on the cause, chiropractic care may be one part of a conservative plan for certain types of lower back pain. Care recommendations are based on examination findings and may include manual techniques, mobility work or rehabilitation exercises. Imaging or referral to another healthcare provider may be appropriate in some cases.

Dr. Fronzaglia will ask when the pain began, what movements aggravate it and whether symptoms travel into the hips or legs. The evaluation may include posture, range of motion, muscle function, neurological screening and nearby joints. These findings help determine whether conservative care is appropriate.
